Frequently Asked Questions!r!equently

What the heck is DICE?

Ditmas Indie Comics Extravaganza (DICE) is Ditmas Park, Brooklyn’s premier comic festival dedicated to fostering local talent and partnering with community spaces to create an intentional, hyperlocal event.

It started in 2024 with just six(!) artists at Taylor & Co. Books and has since expanded into Brooklyn Artery with a grand total of 19 artists!! We’re so happy to now be in our third year running DICE, alongside Andrew Colarusso of Taylor & Co. Books and Annie Del Hierro-Jost and Meredith Jacks of Brooklyn Artery.

Why should I come to DICE?

So many reasons! You can meet local comic artists and buy their comics and other works, you can participate in a free stamp rally and get a mystery prize if you complete it, AND you can attend the Comics Soirée on September 26th and see the artists read an excerpt from their new comics!

Is DICE free to attend?

Yes! It is 100% free to attend. Now more than ever, it’s critical that we show up to local art community events!

Who runs DICE?

DICE is a labor of love organized by D Wang Zhao and Diana Schoenbrun and hosted in collaboration with Andrew Colarusso of Taylor & Co. Books, Annie Del Hierro-Jost and Meredith Jacks of Brooklyn Artery.

What is the masking policy at DICE?

We’re recommending everyone to wear a mask. We’ll also have free KN95 and N95’s available at both Taylor & Co. Books and Brooklyn Artery.

Is the event family-friendly?

Our artist-exhibitors may have family-friendly work but not exclusively. NSFW art will typically be labeled as such. When in doubt, you can always as the artist.

Can I volunteer?

Yes, but we’ve already hit our capacity for volunteers this year. But in the meantime, here’s how to stay involved:

1) Printing out our flyer on a color printer and flyering at local businesses aroud you. Ask staff if you can put it in a strategic place inside of the business, on a window, door, on their community board, etc.

2) Spreading the word online! Make a TikTok or Instagram reel about it (our IG is @dicecomix). Make plans with friends to attend DICE on Saturday, September 26th. Invite your friends, lovers, crushes, parents, furries, roommates and soon-to-ex roommates.

2)

What’s a comic and how do I eat it?

A comic is a form of sequential storytelling, typically in panels. (Not to be confused with a comedian who stands on stages.) Comics can be in printed book format or digital. Full of words or wordless. Please don’t eat the comics.

because they may cause indigestion and bloating.
